2008 SWIM TEAM NEWS

 

  • PRACTICES AND MEETS: The practice/meet schedule is on the calendar page.  The schedule could change during the season, so check back often for updates.
     
  • DUAL MEETS: For each dual meet scheduled (see calendar) we need families to do the following. Please note that all sign up sheets are located on the bulletin board next to the pro shop:
    • Sign up for a volunteer position at the meet.  The meets cannot run without volunteers!
    • Sign up to bring food or drinks to the swim team breakfast (held after the morning practice on the day of the meet).
    • If your swimmer will not swim in a meet, please sign him or her out at least two days prior to the meet.
       
  • TEAM BREAKFAST & PEP RALLY: A team breakfast and pep rally will be held at the Ridgewood Clubhouse on dual meet days (June 12, June 17, June 24, July 1, and July 7) immediately after morning practice.  Fuel up and get pumped for the meets - Learn some team cheers, make posters, and let those other pools know that we’ve got Riptide spirit!
     
  • SWIM FOR CANCER: Swimmers, please check your folder next to the pro shop for your Swim for Cancer pledge envelope.  The Ridgewood swimmers will be doing their laps on Thursday, June 26, from 6-9 in place of the regularly scheduled practice. We'll have pizza music and great door prizes! That evening, we'll also be having our 3rd annual PIE THE COACH auction and a new event: PIE YOUR PARENT.  We also have some great raffle items! After the morning practice on June 24 the kids will make a handprint banner to honor anyone they might know who has had cancer.  If you can't make the Swim for Cancer event, swimmers can count laps from practice for their pledges.   • CSA GRASSHOPPERS NIGHT: Mark your calendars! CSA Grasshopper Night is scheduled for Sunday, June 29. Game time is at 5:00 and tickets are $6.  Ticket order forms will be in the folders June 16. All ticket orders are due to Barbara Farrell by Thursday, June 19. You can give them to her on Tuesday at the meet or leave it in the Farrell folder. Checks should be made payable to the Ridgewood Swim Team.
     
  • PIG N’ PASTA PEP RALLY: July 9, bring your Hawaiian gear and have swimmers wear their team shirts for a team picture. Thanks again to all those who are bringing food. It can be dropped off at 6:00.
     
  • END OF SEASON PARTY: From 6:00-9:00 Tuesday, July 15.
     
  • RIPTIDE TEAM SUITS: This year all swimmers will need to have the new team suit.  The new suit is a Tyr Alliance Splice in Black/Green.  We are purchasing the suits through Kast-a-way swim wear to get bulk team pricing. Contact Becky or Stephanie with Kast-a-way by visiting their site or calling 800-401-5278.  If you have any other questions please contact Jenny Riker at briker @ triad.rr.com.
     
  • IMPORTANT CSA CHANGES: The CSA has eliminated community swim team divisions. Instead, teams will swim against the two teams that placed above them, and the two teams that placed below them at last year’s City Meet. Some adjustments have been made to accommodate the teams placing highest and lowest at the City Meet. Hopefully this change will provide for more equitable swim seasons for all teams in the CSA.  For more information, visit the CSA web site.

  • SPONSORS: There are two ways to sponsor the Ridgewood Riptide:
      • Pay $250
      • Sponsor an event or item (e.g. t-shirts, dinner for a party)
    • All sponsors will receive the following:
      • Ads in our weekly newsletter
      • Banner placed at the pool for home swim meets (they must supply the banner)
      • Display product/service at home meets
      • Distribute fliers/coupons/brochures in the crate files and/or with registration information
      • Have a link placed on the Riptide Website
